Hungarian-Style Herring Tartare

An unconventional idea for delicious herring.


  • Herring 5 pieces
  • Pickled cucumber 4 pieces
  • Hard-boiled eggs 5 pieces
  • Red bell pepper 2 pieces
  • Marinated mushrooms 1 jar
  • Onion 1 piece


  • Mustard 1.5 tablespoons
  • Honey 1.5 tablespoons
  • Tomato paste 3 tablespoons
  • Ground hot paprika
  • Salt and pepper


Soak the herring in water for 1.5-2 hours, drain excess water, and dice into cubes. Clean the bell pepper, peel the onion, chop the pickled cucumbers, mushrooms, and eggs into small cubes, preferably of the same size. Mix the sauce ingredients together and add them to the chopped ingredients. Mix thoroughly and refrigerate.
