Croquettes with Serrano ham are one of the most typical tapas in Spain. Try this recipe and bring Spanish flavors into your kitchen.
Ingredients
- Breadcrumbs – 110 g
- Onion – 1 piece
- Ground nutmeg – 1 pinch
- Eggs – 2 pieces
- Butter – 55 g
- Wheat flour – 55 g
- Milk – 450 ml
- Olive oil – 1 tablespoon
- Salt – 1 pinch
- Serrano ham – 100 g
Preparation
Step 1: Saute the Ham and Onion Finely chop the Serrano ham and onion. Pour a tablespoon of olive oil into a heated pan, add butter, and sauté the onion and ham on them.
Step 2: Prepare the Filling for Croquettes Add flour to the pan and saute for a while. Gradually pour in the milk while stirring constantly. Cook the mixture until it thickens. Season with salt and ground nutmeg. Let the mixture cool.
Step 3: Shape the Croquettes In a bowl, beat the eggs, and spread breadcrumbs on a plate. Form croquettes from the cooled mixture. (If the mixture is too loose, add 2-3 tablespoons of breadcrumbs to it). Dip the formed croquettes in the beaten eggs, then coat them with breadcrumbs.
Step 4: Fry the Croquettes Fry the croquettes in heated olive oil until they turn golden brown.
