Herring Tartare with Pickled Vegetables

Herring tartare with pickled vegetables is a tasty appetizer leading into a main course or a snack for a party.


  • Herring fillets: 300 g
  • Marinated vegetable salad: 150 g
  • Pickled golden onions: 4 pieces
  • Chopped chives: 4 large tablespoons
  • Lemon juice: from half a fruit
  • Ketchup: 2 large tablespoons
  • Olive oil: 2 large tablespoons
  • Quail eggs: 4 pieces
  • Rye bread: 4 slices
  • Cherry tomatoes: 4 pieces
  • Butter: 1-2 large tablespoons
  • Pickled cucumbers: 2 pieces
  • Herb pepper (ground): to taste


Dice the herring fillets, drained marinated mushroom salad, and pickles. Add golden onions, then combine with lemon juice, olive oil, chopped chives, and ketchup. Season to taste with herb pepper.

Decorate the finished herring tartare with boiled quail eggs and chives. Serve with toasted rye bread and honey-mustard sauce.
