Crispitos are the perfect blend of comfort and convenience, wrapped in a crispy golden crust. They’re a fun twist on traditional tacos, combining the savoury goodness of seasoned ground beef and melted cheese with the satisfying crunch of a fried tortilla.
Ingredients:
- 1 quart vegetable oil, for frying
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 clove of garlic, minced
- 1 packet taco seasoning
- 10 flour tortillas
- 1/4 cup salsa con queso (optional)
- 2 cups grated cheddar cheese
- toothpicks
Method of preparation:
In a large frying pan, heat a few tablespoons of vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic and cook until soft and fragrant.
Add the ground beef to the pan and cook until browned. Pour off any excess fat.
Stir in the taco seasoning and cook according to the packet instructions.
Lay out the flour tortillas and spread a thin layer of salsa con queso on each, if using.
Divide the cooked ground beef evenly between the tortillas and sprinkle with grated cheddar cheese.
Roll the tortillas tightly and secure with toothpicks.
Heat the remaining vegetable oil to 175°C (350°F) in a deep fryer or large saucepan.
Add the crispitos in batches, taking care not to overcrowd the pan. Cook until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes.
Remove the crispitos with a slotted spoon and drain on kitchen paper.
Serve hot with extra salsa, sour cream or guacamole on the side.
