Vegetarian Bean Burger

A burger doesn’t always have to have a meaty component. Try new flavors and test out this recipe for a bean burger made with red beans and oats.

Ingredients

Burgers

  • Canned red beans: 800 grams
  • Onion: 2 pieces
  • Oats: 60 grams
  • Garlic: 4 cloves
  • Sweet paprika: 2 teaspoons
  • Cayenne pepper: 1 teaspoon
  • Ground black pepper: 1/2 teaspoon
  • Meatloaf and meatball seasoning: to taste
  • Oil: for frying

Buns and toppings

  • Buns: 8 pieces
  • Lettuce: 8 leaves
  • Tomato: 8 slices
  • Pickled cucumber: 8 slices
  • Garlic sauce: to taste
  • Mild ketchup: to taste
  • Onion: 1/2 piece

Preparation

  1. Grind the oats into flour. Dice the onion. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a frying pan and sauté the onion. Add chopped garlic. Sauté lightly and set aside.
  2. Drain the beans and blend them into a smooth paste. Add the sautéed onion and garlic, spices, and ground oats. Blend until all ingredients are combined.
  3. Shape the mixture into burgers and fry in hot oil on both sides. You can then bake them in the oven for about 15 minutes at 160 degrees Celsius with convection or at 180 degrees Celsius without convection.
  4. Cut the buns in half and layer all the ingredients. Drizzle with garlic sauce and ketchup.
