Sweet Popcorn

The Sweet Popcorn recipe is a classic treat that transforms the humble kernel into a celebration of sweetness.   • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 100g popcorn kernels
  • 250g caster sugar
  • 50g salted butter, diced

Method of cooking:

Heat the vegetable oil in a large saucepan over a medium heat.

Add the popcorn kernels and cover with a lid.

When the kernels begin to pop, shake the pot occasionally to ensure even popping and to prevent burning.

When the popping stops, remove the pot from the heat and transfer the popped corn to a large bowl.

In a separate saucepan, combine the caster sugar and butter.

Cook over a medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture is golden brown and has a smooth consistency.

Pour the caramel over the popcorn while it’s still hot.

Stir quickly to coat the popcorn evenly before the caramel hardens.

Place the coated popcorn on a baking sheet lined with greaseproof paper.

Leave to cool and harden.

When cooled, break the sweet popcorn into clusters.

Serve in a bowl and enjoy your homemade sweet treat!
