Pizza Lava Toast is a fiery take on the classic toast, combining the comfort of pizza with the crunch of toasted bread. It’s a quick and easy snack that packs a punch with gooey mozzarella, spicy pepper jack and hot pepperoni, all topped with a hint of Italian seasoning.
Ingredients:
- 2 teaspoons butter
- 2 slices sourdough bread
- 1 ½ ounces sliced mozzarella cheese, divided
- 1/2 ounce sliced pepper jack cheese
- 5 slices pickled jalapenos
- 5 slices pepperoni
- 1 tablespoon pizza sauce
- 1/4 teaspoon Italian seasoning, divided
- Crushed red pepper, to taste
- Ground black pepper, to taste
Method of preparation:
Preheat the oven to 375°F.
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Brush both sides of each slice of bread with butter and place on the prepared pan.
Bake, turning once halfway through, until lightly browned on both sides, about 8 minutes.
Spread half of the mozzarella cheese around the edge of one slice of bread, leaving the centre of the bread empty.
Top with the other slice of bread.
Use the back of a spoon to make a hole in the middle of the bread slices and press down firmly to reach the bottom slice.
Spoon the pizza sauce into the depression and sprinkle half the Italian seasoning over the top.
Cover with the remaining ½oz of mozzarella and pepper jack, followed by the jalapeño and pepperoni.
Garnish with the remaining Italian seasoning, crushed red pepper and black pepper.
Bake until the cheese is melted and golden brown, about 5 minutes.
Slice in half and serve hot.
