Pigs in a Blanket

Delicious and fluffy yeast rolls with a sausage inside will be a great snack for any occasion. You can use any type of sausage for this recipe.

Ingredients

Sausages in Pastry

  • Sugar – 1 teaspoon
  • Active dry yeast – 5 g
  • Egg – 1 piece
  • Butter – 35 g
  • Wheat flour (type 450) – 300 g
  • Whole milk (3.2%) – 230 ml
  • Sausages – 300 g

Additional

  • Milk – 70 ml
  • Olive oil – 2 tablespoons
  • White sesame seeds – 1 tablespoon
  • Coarse sea salt – 0.5 teaspoon

Preparation

Step 1: Prepare the Starter Pour warm milk into the bowl of a stand mixer. Add the egg and softened butter. Mix.

Step 2: Knead the Dough Add flour, yeast, salt, and sugar. Mix all the ingredients, then knead for about 10 minutes until you get a smooth, uniform dough. If the dough is too sticky, add a little flour and knead again until it no longer sticks to your hands.

Transfer the dough to a bowl greased with olive oil and cover with a cotton cloth. Let it rise in a warm, draft-free place for about 2 hours. The dough should double in size.

Step 3: Shape the Dough Transfer the risen dough onto a floured surface and gently knead it, then divide it into 6 pieces. Shape each piece into a ball. Cover the dough balls with a cotton cloth and let them rest for about 10 minutes in a warm, draft-free place.

Step 4: Wrap the Sausages in the Dough From each dough ball, shape a long cylinder (about 40-50 cm long). Wrap each sausage with the prepared dough and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush with milk using a pastry brush, then sprinkle with sesame seeds and salt. Let them rest for another 15 minutes.

Step 5: Bake the Pigs in a Blanket Bake the pigs in a blanket until golden brown, about 12 minutes, in an oven preheated to 200°C.
