French toast with salted caramel

Experience the elegance of a French restaurant with this simple recipe.


  • 4 slices brioche or challah bread
  • 1 large egg
  • 5 tablespoons milk
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter

To serve:

  • Salted caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade – recipe)
  • Raspberry jam, raspberries


In a deep plate, whisk together the egg, milk, and vanilla sugar. Dip bread slices into the egg mixture, coating evenly. Heat butter in a frying pan over medium heat. Fry the soaked bread slices until golden brown on one side, then flip and fry the other side. Remove from pan and place on a plate. Drizzle with salted caramel sauce. Serve with raspberry jam and/or fresh raspberries.
