Dutch frikandel

Dutch frikandel

One of the most popular Dutch fast foods made at home. This unique delicacy, although it looks like a sausage, resembles a meatloaf much more.

Ingredients

  • Breadcrumbs: 15 g
  • Onions: 2 pieces
  • Ground nutmeg: 0.25 teaspoon
  • Egg: 1 piece
  • Ketchup: 4 tablespoons
  • Mayonnaise: 2 teaspoons
  • Ground pork: 500 g
  • Sunflower oil: 1 tablespoon
  • Black pepper: 0.5 teaspoon
  • Salt: 1 teaspoon
  • Cream (30% fat): 50 ml
  • Allspice: 0.5 teaspoon

Preparation

Peel and quarter the onions, place them in a blender container. Chop finely (with the measuring cup attached), holding down the turbo button/2 seconds. Add the ground meat, 1 teaspoon of salt, ½ teaspoon of pepper, ground nutmeg, allspice, breadcrumbs, chilled cream, and egg to the container. Mix (with the measuring cup attached) for 3 minutes/speed 4. Transfer the meat mixture to another container. Wash the blender container.

Shape the meat mixture into 4 elongated sausages with a diameter of 4 cm, wrap each in plastic wrap, and tightly twist the ends of the wrap. Pour 1 liter of warm water into the blender container and place a deep steaming insert on it. Place the frikandels in the insert. Close the insert with a lid and cook the frikandels, setting the steam cooking program for 8 minutes.

Remove the cooked frikandels from the plastic wrap and fry them in a pan with 1 tablespoon of oil. Then, slice them lengthwise, and serve with chopped onions, ketchup, and mayonnaise.
