A great idea for a French-style breakfast.
Ingredients
- 1 baguette
- 2 eggs
- 100 ml milk
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- butter
- seasonal fruits: banana / pomegranate / strawberries
- lemon juice
- maple syrup / powdered sugar
Preparation
Slice the baguette into pieces. In a deep plate, beat the eggs with milk and sugar using a fork (as for an omelette). Heat a pan. Soak the baguette slices in the egg and milk mixture. Put at least 3 tablespoons of butter in the pan and spread it all over. When it starts to sizzle, add 4 – 5 slices of baguette and fry for about 2 minutes. Flip them and fry the other side.
The bread should be nicely browned but not burnt, so the heat under the pan should not be too high. Place the slices on a plate lined with paper towels. Clean or wipe the pan with a paper towel and repeat the frying process with the remaining baguette slices. Serve the toasts with fresh fruits drizzled with lemon juice. You can also drizzle them with maple syrup or sprinkle with powdered sugar.
