The art of making roti is a cherished tradition in many cultures, symbolising the warmth of home and the joy of sharing. This buttery Indian flatbread recipe is your canvas to create something that’s not just food, but a piece of culinary heritage.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups bread flour (or all purpose flour)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 2/3 cup water
- Extra butter for frying
Method of preparation:
Combine the flour and salt in a large mixing bowl.
Add the melted butter to the flour mixture and mix well.
Gradually add the water to the mixture and knead to form a soft dough. The dough should be smooth and not sticky.
Cover the dough with a damp cloth and leave to rest for at least 30 minutes.
Divide the dough into evenly sized balls, about the size of a golf ball.
On a lightly floured surface, roll each ball into a thin circle about 6 inches in diameter.
Heat a frying pan or grill over medium heat. When hot, place the rolled out dough on the pan.
Cook for about 30 seconds or until small bubbles form on the surface. Flip the roti and cook for a further 30 seconds.
Add a small amount of butter to the pan and spread over the roti. Flip again and lightly press with a spatula so that the roti puffs up.
Take out of the pan and keep warm. Repeat with the rest of the dough.
