BALCHAO - Indian Shrimp Curry in Tomatoes

Seafood in Indian style. You will gladly prepare and serve this recipe at the table.

Ingredients

  • King prawns – 300 g
  • Tomatoes – 250 g
  • Onion – 1 piece
  • Garlic cloves – 3 pieces
  • Chili pepper – 1 piece
  • Clarified butter – 2 tablespoons
  • Coconut milk – 150 ml
  • Lime juice – 1 tablespoon
  • Ground Ginger – a pinch
  • Sugar – a pinch
  • Cinnamon – a pinch
  • Cumin – a pinch
  • Ground Cayenne Pepper – a pinch
  • Ground Black Pepper – a pinch
  • Ground Turmeric – 1 teaspoon

Preparation

  1. Blanch the tomatoes, peel, chop, and puree.
  2. Mix chopped onion and garlic with chili and a teaspoon of ginger.
  3. In a small bowl, mix the ingredients for the masala: 1 teaspoon of cumin, cayenne pepper, black pepper, turmeric, and 0.5 teaspoon of cinnamon.
  4. Heat the clarified butter in a wok with the masala mixture, add the blended onion, and 3 tablespoons of water – cook for about 3-4 minutes.
  5. Pour in the tomato puree, add coconut milk, a teaspoon of sugar, and lime juice – cook for about 10 minutes until thickened.
  6. Add the prawns, simmer for about 5 minutes over low heat.
  7. Adjust seasoning if necessary.
  8. Serve hot with fluffy rice!
