Symbiotic Hot Dogs with Mustard-Braised Onions

A great snack for a sudden hunger attack. Whether you’re just patrolling the city or facing a busy evening full of fighting crime, you can always grab a hot dog on the go.

Ingredients

  • Hot dog buns – 2 pcs.
  • Turkey franks – 2 pcs.
  • Mustard – 1 tablespoon
  • Ketchup – 1 tablespoon
  • Pickled cucumber – 2 pcs.
  • Clarified butter – 1 tablespoon

Mustard-Braised Onions

  • Onion – 1 pc.
  • Mustard – 1 tablespoon
  • Maple syrup – 1 teaspoon
  • Apple cider vinegar – 1 teaspoon
  • Salt – a pinch
  • Black pepper – a pinch

Preparation

Step 1: Braising the Onions Slice the onion into thin strips. Heat the clarified butter in a pan. Sauté the onion for about 5 minutes until softened and golden. Then add mustard, maple syrup, vinegar, salt, and pepper to taste. Mix everything well and simmer for another 5 minutes.

Step 2: Preparing the Remaining Ingredients Toast the hot dog buns for about 5 minutes. Boil the turkey franks in boiling water for about 5 minutes, then drain them and gently pat dry if needed. Mix mustard with ketchup. Slice the pickled cucumbers lengthwise.

Step 3: Assembling the Hot Dogs Slice the hot dog buns lengthwise, being careful not to cut them all the way through. Spread the prepared sauce inside each bun. Place a slice of cucumber on one side of each bun. Then place the turkey franks in the hot dogs and cover them with the braised onions.
