- Garlic cloves – 3 pieces
- Ketchup – 4 tablespoons
- Honey mustard – 4 tablespoons
- Balsamic vinegar – 4 tablespoons
- Rapeseed oil – 2 tablespoons
- Sweet paprika powder – 2 teaspoons
- Ground herb pepper – 0.5 teaspoon
- Salt – a pinch
- Maple syrup – 150 ml
Hot Dogs
- Hot dog buns – 4 pieces
- Sugar – 2 tablespoons
- Onion – 2 pieces
- Balsamic vinegar – 4 tablespoons
- Jalapeño peppers – 2 pieces
- Black pepper – a pinch
- Vegan sausages – 4 pieces
- Salt – a pinch
Preparation
Step 1: Prepare Homemade BBQ Sauce
Finely chop the onion and sauté it in a saucepan with heated oil until it becomes translucent. Add chopped garlic and the remaining sauce ingredients: maple syrup or honey, ketchup, mustard, and balsamic vinegar. Season with paprika, herb pepper, and salt. Mix well.
Simmer the mixture over low heat for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent the sauce from burning.
Step 2: Caramelize the Onion
Slice the onion into rings and sauté in a skillet with moderately heated oil until translucent. Season with salt and pepper, and cook for about 5 minutes. Add balsamic vinegar and cook for another 5-7 minutes until the liquid evaporates. Add sugar and caramelize the onion for about 2-3 minutes.
Step 3: Grill the Vegan Sausages
Grill the vegan sausages on both sides on a preheated and oiled grill pan until they achieve a nice, golden color.
Step 4: Assemble and Serve Hot Dogs
Slice the hot dog buns lengthwise without cutting them completely. Fill them with caramelized onions and vegan sausages.
Wash the jalapeño peppers, remove the seeds, and slice them. Place the pepper slices on top of the sausages. Bake the assembled hot dogs for about 10 minutes in an oven preheated to 180°C, then drizzle with homemade BBQ sauce.
