Chai is an Indian recipe for delicious spiced tea. An incredibly healthy drink that you can make in just a few minutes with some simple ingredients.
Ingredients
- Black tea leaves – 2 teaspoons
- Milk – 0.5 cup
- Honey or brown sugar – 2 teaspoons
Spices
- Ginger root – 1.5 cm piece
- Cinnamon stick – 1
- Cardamom seeds – 0.25 teaspoon (seeds removed from pods)
- Star anise – 2
- Cloves – 3
- Crushed black peppercorns – 2
- Grated nutmeg – a pinch
Preparation
To prepare, pour 2 cups of water into a small saucepan and add the sliced ginger and remaining spices. Bring to a boil.
Add the tea leaves and simmer on low heat for about 5 minutes. Add the milk and honey, stirring to combine. Continue to heat until just before boiling.
Strain the chai into cups using a sieve. You can sweeten it further to taste if desired.
