There’s nothing quite like the combination of a juicy beef patty, silky gravy and perfectly cooked egg over fluffy rice to satisfy your craving for comfort food.
Ingredients:
- 2/3 cup white rice
- 4 eggs
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 cup panko (asian breadcrumbs)
- 1/2 cup onion (minced, sweet onion preferred)
- 1 egg (beaten)
- 1 teaspoon worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- oil (for frying)
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2tbsp all purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups beef stock
- 2 dashes worcestershire sauce
- pinch of salt
- ground pepper
Method of preparation:
Cook the rice: Start by cooking the white rice according to the packet instructions.
Make the patties: In a bowl, mix the ground beef, panko, chopped onion, beaten egg, 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce, 1 teaspoon salt and 1 teaspoon black pepper. Form 4 patties.
Fry the patties: Heat the oil in a frying pan over a medium heat. Cook the patties until browned on both sides and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
Make the gravy: In the same frying pan, melt the butter over a medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for a minute to form a roux. Gradually add the beef stock and 2 dashes of Worcestershire sauce, whisking constantly until the sauce thickens. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
Fry the eggs: In a separate frying pan, fry the eggs to your preferred doneness.
Assemble the loco moco: Place a scoop of rice on each plate, top with a beef patty, pour over the gravy and top with a fried egg.
Serve: Serve your Loco Moco hot, with extra salt and pepper to taste.
