Mulled Wine - Recipe for Mulled Wine

A simple recipe for mulled wine. Although we most often reach for it in autumn and winter, it tastes just as delicious in springtime or even on summer evenings.


  • 500 ml red wine
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon honey (or sugar)
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla sugar (optional)
  • Spices: a piece of cinnamon bark, a star anise, and 2 cloves (or ready-made mulled wine spice mix)
  • Optional: 1 cardamom pod, 2 orange slices, 50 ml red Martini or raspberry juice or orange liqueur


Place all ingredients except for the orange slices in a saucepan and heat over low heat until the wine begins to gently evaporate (it will be hot, but not yet boiling). Remove from heat and add the orange slices if using them.
