McDonald’s style fries

McDonald's style fries

Who doesn’t love the iconic taste of McDonald’s chips? With this recipe, you can recreate that delicious, familiar flavour in your own kitchen. When you make these fries at home, you know exactly what’s in them. You can ensure the quality of the ingredients and even make adjustments to suit your tastes.

Ingredients:

  • 8 potatoes, peeled and cut into 1/4 inch thick fries
  • ¼ cup white sugar
  • 2 tablespoons corn syrup
  • 1 quart canola oil, or to taste
  • sea salt to taste

Method of preparation:

Prepare the potatoes: Peel the potatoes and cut into 1/4-inch thick slices. Soak the cut potatoes in cold water for about 30 minutes to remove excess starch. Drain and pat dry with a tea towel.

Make the sugar solution: In a large bowl, combine the white sugar, corn syrup and enough warm water to make a solution. Stir until the sugar is completely dissolved. Soak the chips in this solution for about 15 minutes, then drain and pat dry.

To fry the potatoes: Heat the canola oil in a deep fryer or large saucepan to 375°F (190°C). Add potatoes in batches to avoid overcrowding the pan. Cook until the chips are golden brown and crispy, about 5 minutes per batch.

Season to taste: Drain the chips on kitchen paper to remove excess oil. While still hot, sprinkle with sea salt to taste.
