Homemade Citrus Cranberry Sauce

Awaken your senses with a vibrant splash of colour and a burst of flavour! This Homemade Citrus Cranberry Sauce is a festive masterpiece, weaving the tangy zest of sun-kissed oranges and lemons with the bold, ruby jewels of cranberries. It’s not just a sauce; it’s the crowning glory of any dish that calls for a touch of sweet, a dash of tart and a whole lot of cheer.

Ingredients:

  • 2 medium navel oranges
  • 1 lemon
  • 1lb cranberries (fresh or frozen)
  • 1 1/4 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup water

Method of preparation:

Finely grate 1 teaspoon of zest from each orange and lemon. Set aside.

Peel the oranges and lemon, removing any white pith.

In a bowl, slice the oranges into segments, reserving the juice, and cut the segments into small pieces.

Place the cranberries, sugar and water in a medium saucepan.

Bring to the boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally.

Once boiling, reduce the heat and simmer until the cranberries burst and the mixture thickens slightly, about 8-10 minutes.

Remove from the heat and stir in the orange segments, reserved zest and any retained juice.

Leave the sauce to cool to room temperature. It will thicken as it cools.

Refrigerate the sauce for at least 3 hours before serving to enhance the flavours and texture.
