Homemade Hot Chocolate

Chocolate

Indulge in the comforting warmth of homemade hot chocolate with this simple recipe. Rich cocoa powder and finely chopped dark chocolate combine with your choice of milk to create a velvety, decadent drink.

Ingredients:

  • 250ml milk of your choice
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1-2 tablespoons soft light brown sugar (to taste)
  • 25g dark or bittersweet chocolate, finely chopped (plus extra for grating)
  • 1 tbsp whipped cream or sour cream (optional, for topping)

Method of preparation:

In a saucepan, whisk together the sugar and cocoa powder.

Add the milk, chopped chocolate and a dash of vanilla extract.

Place the pan over a medium heat and whisk constantly to avoid burning the chocolate. Heat until the mixture is steaming and the chocolate is completely melted.

Remove from the heat and allow to cool to the desired serving temperature.

Serve in mugs with a dollop of whipped or swirled cream and a grating of extra dark chocolate.
