This is a recipe in which you can use different types of bread – it can also be wholemeal. French toast is an easy dish to make, but at the same time it is classic and stylish.
Ingredients:
- white bread (sliced)
- poached eggs
- a little milk
- vanilla extract
- ground cinnamon
- ground salt
- butter (for cooking)
Method of preparation:
In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon and a pinch of salt until well combined.
Heat a frying pan or griddle over a medium heat and add a small amount of butter to coat the surface.
Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture and allow to soak for a few seconds on each side.
Place the soaked bread slices on the preheated pan or griddle and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through.
Repeat with the remaining bread slices, adding more butter to the pan or griddle if necessary.
Serve warm with your favourite topping such as maple syrup, powdered sugar, fresh fruit or whipped cream.
