Stromboli

Stromboli

Stromboli is a delicious Italian-American invention that resembles a rolled-up pizza. Packed with savoury ingredients such as marinara sauce, pepperoni, salami and plenty of cheese, this dish is perfect for a hearty meal or a party snack. The golden, crispy crust encloses a gooey, savoury filling that will delight your taste buds with every bite.

Ingredients:

  • 8 oz pizza dough
  • 1/2 cup marinara sauce (store-bought or homemade), plus extra for serving
  • 4 oz. sliced pepperoni
  • 1 1/2 c. grated mozzarella cheese
  • 4 oz. salami slices
  • 1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 Tbsp butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano

Method of cooking:

Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F). Line a baking sheet with greaseproof paper or lightly grease it.

On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pizza dough into a large rectangle, about 12×14 inches.

Spread the marinara sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a 1cm border around the edges.

Spread the pepperoni slices evenly over the sauce.

Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella on top of the pepperoni.

Place the salami slices on top of the mozzarella.

Sprinkle the freshly grated Parmesan over the salami.

Starting from one of the long edges, carefully roll the dough into a log, tucking in the ends as you go so that the fillings are sealed in.

Pinch the seams and ends to completely seal the Stromboli.

Place the Stromboli on the prepared baking tray, seam side down.

Brush the top of the Stromboli with the melted butter.

Sprinkle the dried oregano evenly over the buttered surface.

Bake the Stromboli in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and crispy.

Allow the Stromboli to cool for a few minutes before slicing.

Serve with extra marinara sauce for dipping.
